English fansubbed clip of one of the latest Pili series ahoy! From PILI Destiny: The Battle of Immortals and Demons comes a badass Butterfly entrance! Be sure to click the CC button for subs! (In this clip, you can see a Pili component that was left out of Thunderbolt Fantasy: the combat narration.)

The person who subbed and posted the video is subbing clips to help improve their English and is looking for feedback, so feel free to leave a comment on YouTube to help ‘em out! There’s also an explanation of the Gu technique in the YouTube description if you’re interested.

More quality puppet action featuring Jian Sou Feng (the one with the gorgeous brown locks) and Hu Tieh Chun (The “Butterfly King”, with white hair to go with his snazzy red and gold duds) in the latest Pili season, Pili Destiny: The Battle of the Immortals and Demons! Sou Feng made his first appearance this season, but Tieh Chun first appeared in all the way back in 2004!

Your typical wuxia fighting puppets…and rock stars?! (Note: I have no clue if they’re actually rock stars in the show, but if they are, I wouldn’t be surprised. Anything is possible with puppets.)

Talking about Thunderbolt Fantasy means that sometimes us Western fans get to find out a lil’ more about Pili, but they aren’t the only puppet game in town. Back in the 1970s, Junxiong Huang made a show called The Scholar Swordsman that put traditional Taiwanese glove puppetry on the pop cultural map. Without him and this show, we never would have got TBF! His sons Chris and Vincent Huang made Pili but another one of his sons, Steven (referred to as Ligang in the video) still works with his pops. Jinguang, the reboot puppet series featuring the classic characters from The Scholar Swordsman, is Pili’s only competition in televised puppet drama.

You can see the elder Huang with the traditional Japanese theater puppets and Steven with the newer version of the character. Jinguang, much like Pili, has one lead voice actor for all characters as part of the traditional puppet theater origins. Steven is Jinguang’s lead VA and is known to give demonstrations of his voice acting range on talk shows, performing the characters live with Jinguang puppeteers.

A Jinguang clip for those curious on how they do things. A rescue mission turns into a sudden revelation as Mirror Man discovers that Wu Shing is his daughter. The forces of Wolf Lord and Tyranness learn the hard way you probably shouldn’t mess with a guy known as the Source of Evil, especially when his daughter is on the line! The bit that proceeded this is here and worth watching for the dramatic way Mirror Man curses the heavens.

A Pili ad for the 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival. That year’s event is set in Yulin, the birthplace of Pili, so of course the puppets are going to pull out all the stops to rep their hometown. There’s even a Glove Puppet Museum in Yunlin’s Huwei Township! You can even see meteor walking in the beginning.

@hikayagami, is there any reason why they’re using this design for Su Huan Jen in this ad? I love me some purple Susu but I believe the most recent design they’re using of him has a white and gold outfit. His face is less rounded in that version too. Would be nice to know who the rest of the characters are too, I could only recognize Susu and Ye Xiao Chai. (For anyone else reading this: he’s the one with the scar on his face)

TUMBLR JUST KILLED LINKS

Yes, you read it right.

As of today, November 17, 2018, any post with links, any links, even to other tumblr posts, just don’t show up anymore in tumblr’s search engine.

I just found out about it, after I posted a fic with a link to my masterlist and it got little to no notes (it shuldn’t). I was right - the moment I deleted the links, my post magically appeared in the search again. Wow.

Please spread the word to warn the others.

All worked well to me until last night. Last night I posted some edits with links in the description, and no one of those edits appear in the search. So, to all the content creators out there (wrestling fandom in this case), you must avoid to do this. Don’t add any link.

Paging @bicatperson, because apparently they decided to go from “only ONE link” to “you can have NONE”.

My posts with any links haven’t shown up in search for at least a year by now – even if they had only one link, even if they only had links to other Tumblr posts. Which is pretty rough when you’re posting art for your small privately-hosted indie webcomic, and the goal is to get people to read your small privately-hosted indie webcomic.

Multiple messages about it to Tumblr support just kinda disappeared, unanswered, into the void.

So I’m jealous of y’all who got to have it working for so much longer…but holding out a sliver of hope that maybe the massive outcry will get Tumblr to fix it for everyone.

My bad, I didn’t know it know it was going on that long for you! That sucks.

Speaking of sucking, Tumblr keeps showing all of these notifications from other people responding to the main post as responding to *me* specifically…but I can’t seem to filter out these responses that I didn’t even opt in to seeing in the first place. Great feature, Tumblr.

Go to the replies for that post and hit the lightning bolt button

Thank you for informing me of this. Still have to dig through all of the notifications that I got sent before I hit the lightning bolt button, but at least I won’t have to deal with any new ones. You’re the champ!
